ST205 - Improving the Handling

Introduction

While the handling of the car s more than reasonable, a completely stock setup can certainly be improved

Bear in mind though that the better you make the corenering, the worse it gets if you get it wrong.

Geometry

Pretty much the cheapest option that offers real bang for buck. A "full" geometry setup can significantly alter the handling charecteristics

Best of all, do it yourself and it requires no financial outlay. Expect somewhere round £100 for a decent place to run a 4 wheel alignment setup

Camber adjustment

Again another reasonably cheap modification that offers good bang for buck. Dialling in a bit of extra camber will certainly help the car get round those corners better

A set of camber adjustment bolts costs less than £50.
A decent set of adjustable topmounts runs somewhere round £1-200 per end

Mix them up with a 4 wheel alignment with custom geometry for a real difference!

Lowering Springs

Again reasonably cheap lowering springs are avalable. Do buy good quality ones (150-200) and don't go for a 4ft drop which will ruin the car

However a 25mm drop on good springs will lower the centre of gravity without destroying the rollcentre giving you another improvement in cornering capability

Sport Dampers

MOVE ME TO ANOTHER ARTICLE ON GEOMETRY! While there isn't that much scope for changing settings there is lots of scope for changing the handling

Both front and rear are adjustable for toe only (the rear toe does change camber slightly but not significantly)

The stock setup uses a small amount of toe in both front and rear.

This gives a fairly docile car that's great in a straight line and generally switches to progressive understeer if you're pushing it too hard
