First of all please take the time to read and understand this guide thoroughly before starting. It will provide lots of information on how to create your content and how to fit it into the site to avoid it disappearing into obscurity

Contents

Site Organisation

First off a brief note on how content is orgainised so you are familiar with the concept

Everything that's user added is placed into a specific category based on it's content. From each category there are a number of related sub categories.

As a example Maintenance is a category. Under this are sub categories for engine maintenance, brake system maintenance, etc. etc

The top level categories are all listed out on the main site entry page

Car Related content

Nearly all of the vehicle related content on this site is fitted into categories

A Category is a notional grouping of material which covers a particular type of subject

There are currently 4 categories for articles :-

User Related Content

There are two categories for user information

How to add technical content

Technical content is content that explains how to do a particular job on the car.

This guide is the only way that is recommended for adding content. Following this guide will add your content to the correct place and ensure that it is visible to others even if you miss some steps

  1. Decide what the basic type of your article is
    1. Maintenance, modification information etc
  2. From the main site page navigate into that category
  3. You should now see a page for that category with a number of sub-categories listed
    1. engine, chassis, brakes etc
  4. Next to each sub-category you will see an edit link (if you're logged in). Click it
  5. The edit page will open and you'll see something like

== [[:Category:Engine_maintenance|Engine Maintenance]] ==

[[ST215 engine rebuild|Rebuilding a ST215 3S-GTE engine]]

[[ST205 engine swap|ST205 Engine removal guide]]

[[:Category:error_codes|Check for error codes]]

[[Change cambelt|Change The Cambelt]]

  1. The text in the middle of == == is the category title
    1. Copy or make a note of the Category:xxxxxxxxxxx text from this line
  2. The text between [[ ]] is a link to an article
  3. Creat a new line with == User Profile== Public profile for a user Tag: <nowiki>[[Category:User_profiles]]

User Projects

Applying Tags

If you follow the creating a page guide correctly a single tag should be all that's required to fit it into the correct section

Main Site Pages

These pages are directly available from the left hand navigation pane of the web page

Main Page

This is the main face of the wiki site. It contains links to all available content. Most users will not need to change this as it simply provides convenient links into lower subsetcions. Your content should be added to those pages

Community

~Documentation on how to use the wiki, how to contribute, codes of conduct etc. Again not a page users should be editing BUT if you feel there is information missing that could be useful you are free to add

How Do I Start A New Page

Assuming you are already a registered contributor....

Decide where you want the article

First decide where your new page best resides :- is it a maintenance article, an information article or a modification article

Once you know which section you want to add it to open that section from the main page. For e.g. let's say you have just modified your car with a flux capacitor and want to share this mod with everyone else, open the modification link

Create A new entry for your article

Under each section (maintenance, information, modification) there are a number of different sub-sections.

Eg in Modification there are sub sections for Performance, Handling, Cosmetic, Track etc etc

Decide where your modification best belongs. For e.g. your new flux capacitor is definitely a performance mod so you'd want to put it in the performance sub section!

Alongside the sub-section of choice you will see an edit link (Right hand side in line with the sub-section title)[Don't see this, you're either not logged in or not registered to contribute] Click this edit link You'll be presented with a basic text editor containing text that looks like this :-

=Performance Modifications=

Feeling the need for speed. Here's some information on how to satisfy your desires

[[Fitting A hyperdrive]]

[[Fitting Neutron Blasters]]

The lines in [[ ]] are the interesting ones. These specify a link to a content page. It is one of these you need to add.

To do this add a new line:-

[[Fitting a flux capacitor]]

Then click on save at the bottom of the page

You will be returned to the main modification page.

In the performance section you'll now see a red link called "Fitting a flux capacitor"

The red colour means that the page does not exist yet! Time to change that

Click the link and it will take you to a new page where you can edit your article. Don't forget to tag it with [[Category:Modification]] so that your new content is added into the modification guides section (Plese finish reading this whole page to understand how/why this is importaint!)

Once you're done editing save the page. Your entry is now in the system
